Thennilapuram Gramam
Another beautiful agraharam which, from the narration of the agraharam folks, was created by fear as the marauding forces of Hyder ali and later Tipu Sultan. This would not have happened if the vassal of the Zamorin, the Palghat Achan, had not invited Hyder Ali for support to break away from the Zamorin.
I wonder at the name of the Gramam like I wonder about several agraharams in Palakkad. Most have not documented their histories and consequently trying to get the etymology is like opening a door to nothingness.
This agraharam has a scholar Thennilapuram Mahadevan who studies ancient Indian history and languages. "His main work focuses on the Southern Recension of the Mahabharata, which is a version of the epic specific to South India. He also researches Brahmi script, one of the oldest writing systems in India, and how communities like the Brahmins migrated and spread their traditions over time. His work helps us better understand India’s cultural and historical development through ancient texts and inscriptions."
The agraharam's Sri Navaneetha Gopalakrishna Swamy is inside the village. There is another Sree Mahavishnu Temple that is alongside the Sree Kunnekkattu Bhagathy temple in Thennilapuram. That is about one kilometer from the Thennilapuram Agrahram. The temples of Sri Mahavishnu and Sri Kunnekkattu Bhagavathy are centuries old and a part of Kavalappara Estate of the erstwhile Kavalappara Swaroopam near Shoranur. With the passage of time and resultant effects of land reforms these temples lost all the landed properties and have to sustain on the offering of devotees.
I read in an article that 4 devis viz., Pallikadi, Parakkadi, Kunnakkadi and Kodikadi devis manifested themselves in Thennilapuram, Vadakkanchery and Kavasseri and fourth one I dont remember. If you have any comments to add please do so in the comments section of this youtube video.
Radhe Krishna
