The temple is known both as Sree Durga Parameswari and Sree Annapoorneswari temple. The temple came into the hands of Natuvil matham Swamiyars of Thrissoor. Puthucode - Kizhakke Gramam

One of my Tathas (Sri Rama Bhagavatar) Sishya was Sri Puthucode Krishnamoorthy. He used to talk eloquently about Puthucode Bhagavathy.

In Puthucode, the presiding Goddess faces west and is also revered as Santha Durga. "The idol of Goddess Bhagavati has the sankalpa of Sree Annapoorneswari. The sila vigraham has a height of 90 cm. over the peetham and has four arms with conch and disc in the two upper hands and abhaya and varada poses in the two lower hands. All other idols are made of sila, Lord Ganapati in sitting pose (height: 45 cm.), Lord Sasta in plain linga form (60 cm.). Lord Subramanya represented by only a peetham (sankalpa pratishtha) and Sree Nagar in sitting pose with raised hoods." - from S.Jayashanker's book

Annapoorna is a manifestation of Parvati and is known as the goddess of food and feeding. True to Her name, annadhanam (a meal offering) is provided to all devotees during the nine days of Navaratri. A special highlight of the Navaratri feast is the Puthucode pulinkari, a unique tamarind-based curry served with rice and olan. The festival menu is traditionally fixed, featuring pulinkari, olan, and chadachadayam payasam.

There is a well-known saying among the Palghat Brahmins:

“Puthucode vitta gramamum illai, pulinkariye vitta koottanum illai,”

which translates to: “There is no agraharam greater than Puthucode, and no vegetable curry better than pulinkari.”

There are 4 gramams in Puthucode and the distribution of Navarathri festival days is as follows:

    * 2nd & 7th Vilakku East Village

    * 3rd, 5th & 8th Vilakku North Village

    * 4th & 6th Vilakku South Village

    * 9th Vilakku West Village

Radhe Krishna
