History
Even though, Kerala is culturally abundant in Devi upasana, worshipping and celebrating different forms Shakthi’s it is very surprising to note that, Maalakshmi, the Godess of prosperity and wellbeing has very few dedicated shrines in the region. The residents consider thier Agraharam as a prosperous village amongst the Palakkad agraharams, as Mahalakshmi's presence shower endless fortunes to her devotees and visitors.
The deity, which was brought from VaradarajaPerumal Kovil to Kariot Village the extension of West Village after a petty quarrel between the then villagers and constructed a new sanctum for the Lakshmidevi. The name of the village is considered to have come from a particular way of roof tiling method, once followed in this stretch of houses in the Agraharam which is called as “Karai odu’.

Perinkulam - Padinjare Gramam - 100 Agraharams Project
Perinkulam is close to the Kochi highway from Palakkad and close to the Alathur Junction.
Perinkulam has three gramams, Thekke gramam, Padinjare Gramam, Kariot Gramam and one temple common to all - The Shiva Temple.
This post is about the Padinjare or West Gramam. I I went there in 2022 and in the morning of my arrival a storm had just passed and washed the skies and the land clean. The temples looked glorious in the morning sun with deep blue skies
I copy my post from FB:
The lord of the village is Varadaraja swamy. Bereft of his consort he looked effulgent with a lotus garland and sandal paste this morning. Parameswaran mama who oversees the daily conduct of the temple said that migrating Brahmin merchants at first installed the Varadaraja swamy and later a second group returning from Tirupati brought in the Mahalakshmi Idol. Initially, both Idols were consecrated alongside. At some point in time when the groups fell out, Goddess Mahalakshmi was removed and placed in a separate gramam called Kariot gramam.
The temple's namaskara mantapam is a forest of timber and carvings in the ceiling are appealing. The temple "ratham" chariot is parked behind the temple alongside the smaller old chariot of the Shiva temple. The new "ratham" is larger and done up with "vengai" wood and the carvings are well crafted. Parameswaran mama was happy and proud to talk about the chariot, its iron wheels and axles and about the utsavams. The "vahanas" or the Lords' Vehicles during the utsavam includes Hamsa, Simha(Yali), Anjaneya, Garuda, Adiseshan, Gaja (elephant) and "Kuthira" Horse. The temple looked radiant in the backdrop of blue skies. The dwajasthambam is taller than in any temple I have seen in an agraharam.
