Melarcode - Thekke Gramam - 100 Agraharams Project
In the 100Agrahram project we have already covered the Melarcode Vadakke Gramam or the North Village. Melarcode however has three other agraharams which are bundled as one Viz Thekke Gramam (South Village), Chattuvacode or Chattekodu (I wonder the name) and East Village. The three "contiguous and have all their temple festivals together".
The world is always a better place when there is enough gratitude. Sri Vaidyanathan mama who is touching 90, recalls important people who worked for the betterment of the agraharam. Sri MM Parameswara iyer who owned the Central lodge and donated land and building to the temple also dug two ponds. What a benefactor!! I wonder if there is a memorial plaque erected in his memory for the most benevolent gesture. The second mention is about the four generations of Pujaris who keep serving the Lord of both the North and South Melarcode villages. Most of the time such folks go unremembered and unsung. Don't miss Vaidyanathan Mama's recalling of the genesis of the "Kootu Payasam" in the Thazhakottu Kaavu Temple. These are the kind of stories children who live in joint families will most benefit from.
The South village's temple is dedicated to Sree Valampiri Vallabha Maha Ganapathy, and the chattuvakode village has a shiva temple. The prathista in the chattuvakode Siva temple is "swayamboo".
A great amount of Bhagavatas have come from Melarcode and it surely is a blessed agraharam!
