Alampallam - Ramanathapuram - 100 Agraharams Project

Parvathavardhini Sametha Sri Ramanathaswamy at Ramanathapuram.

The agraharam is 27 kilometers from Palakkad railway junction and just north of the pollachi highway. It is perpendicular to the gramams of Alampallam old and Alampallam Varadaraja Perumal temple.

I assume that Kollengode, and by extension Alampallam, would have been part of the ancient trade route connecting the port of Muziris in Malabar to the port of Arikamedu (near Pondicherry) on the east coast. The area's antiquity is supported by archaeological findings. I wonder if this is the ancient route called "Rajasekaraperuvazhi" which connected the coasts and thus "trade relations between the Kingdoms of Chera, Chola and Pandyas with Rome".

"The legend says that at Alampallam there existed an ancient temple owned and managed by Nambootiris. When they left the place that temple went Into ruins. The Palakkad Raja brought some Tamil Brahmins and made them settle at this place. They brought with them their tutelar deity and installed the same in this temple. It so happened that a fire destroyed the temple structure. After prasna they decided to replace the idol. One day when they were digging the bed of the Gayatri river accidently they got a bimba of Sree Varadaraja Perumal which was installed in the temple." - From The Census of India,Special studies - Kerala book by S Jayashanker.
