Parakulam - West - Padinjare Gramam - 100 Agraharams Project
A modest village to the west of Parakkulam Kizhakke (East) gramam across the pond. The agraharam is L shaped and at the front is the Chaithanya Mahaganapathy Temple. The side road leads to the Agraharam and since the approach is to fields on the rear I believe the living here should be peaceful sans thoroughfare.
The whole area is fertile. Which brings me about Naduvattam. It is a geography that is enclosed by drawing a line that will go through Elavanchery to the west, Mudalamada to the east, Chittur, Koduthirapully upto Mankurussi in the north and down south again to Elavenchery. This was/is a rice bowl.
"Most inhabitants of Palghat would know little about this principality, located right in the middle of the district. In fact, it is the very area I come from, once upon a time full of forests and hillocks, later all paddy fields, sparsely populated. During the history of Malabar, it was a bone of contention that forced three powerful chieftains to fight many a war, the chieftains being the Cochin Raja, the Palghat Raja, and the Zamorin." ‘... the continuing strategy of the Zamorin of Calicut in annexing land by the force of his sword, owing to the need of rice farming lands to feed his ever-expanding armies." - Maddy in his The Strategic Wedge
I wondered at one resident's observation about her family's migration from Thiruviyaru. In the previous episodes, I have heard about the migration from Ganapathy Agraharam - but this is the first I hear about Thiruvaiyaru. My wife's periyappa Sri Ganesan is an Advocate, 94 years old and a important trustee of the Thyabrambha Mahotsava Sabha and he will be happy to hear this like many from the banks of Cauvery.
