Agraharam 70 in the 100 Agraharams Project
Peringottukurissi
Today, as I document the fading legacy of Peringottrukurissi Agraharam, my heart weeps for a heritage slowly dissolving into memory.
Once a vibrant Brahmin settlement, only a single family now remains, a ghostly echo of centuries past. The 1970 land acquisition act robbed proud landowners overnight, forcing families to leave the sanctuary built by their forefathers after a painful migration from Tamil Nadu, escaping persecution.
I listened, with tearful reverence, to Smt. Ambujam recounting the lost camaraderie and joyful days that time has mercilessly swept away. Sri Kannan’s earnest plea for descendants to return resonates deeply, a call to reclaim the ancestral home their forefathers enriched.
As goddess Vadakkanthara Bhagavathy and Lord Krishna stand as eternal sentinels, witnessing both flourishing and decay, their silent and divine presence is a poignant reminder of the cultural wealth that once defined this agraharam. Their enduring legacy lingers, urging us to remember and rebuild lost connections.
I urge everyone to visit Peringottukurissi Agraharam, where the last Brahmin family remains, preserving a fading legacy. Walk its sacred paths, feel the presence of Vennai Krishna and Bhagavathi, and honor the past. Your visit can help keep the memories alive and reconnect with this vanishing heritage.
Radhe Krishna!
