*Anjumoorthy Mangalam - Thekke Gramam*

The Special studies book on Kerala states thus: "Datable to eighteenth century, the temple has a swayambhoo idol. It is reported that in those days there was a big peepul tree on the bank of a tank and old people used to spend their leisure time underneath this tree. One day one of them decided to clean the tara around it. While cleaning he noticed a beautiful granite stone beneath the tree. On that night he had a dream that the stone which he saw possessed the chaitanya of Lord Sasta. Next day morning he told his friends about this and based on the opinion of elders a prasna was held. The prasna confirmed his vision in the dream. Thereafter a temple was built at this site."

"Prior to the implementation of the Land Reforms Act, the temple had paddy fields which fetched 300 paras of paddy, besides the temple complex of 50 cents of land. Now only the temple complex remains."

Paraphrasing from the same book about the Anchumoorthy temple - The temple dates back to ancient times, once surrounded by dense forests and a serene lake with red and white lotuses. As per legend, Lord Maha Vishnu instructed Kasyapa Maharshi to renovate an old temple. He set out from Kachamkurissi hills and, upon reaching this place, had a divine vision of Lord Narasimhamoorty. Following instructions, he retrieved an idol of Lord Narasimha from the lake and installed it in a shrine built by Sree Viswakarma. While meditating, he sensed Goddess Katyayani’s presence and consecrated her idol, along with Lord Sastha and Lord Ganapati, giving the temple its name, Sree Anchumoortty Temple. Over time, Lord Narasimha’s intense power caused strict divine retribution. To balance this, Palakkat Raja installed a fierce Lord Shiva idol, but this led to more disturbances. A Deva Prasna revealed Lord Narasimha’s displeasure, leading to the adoption of Sattvic pooja and modifications in idol placement.
