History
Alampallam old is situated near the banks of River Gayathri which flows parallel to the village. Sri Chaithanya Mahaganapathi is the presiding deity of Alampallam old and the temple is situated in the middle of the village.
Alampallam consist of 3 villages namely Alampallam (old), Alampallam, Ramanathapuram. A grand old Banyan tree is situated in the west end of the old village very close to the river Gayathri. It is assumed that ‘Aal’ means banyan tree and ‘pallam’ means pit hence the place was called as Alampallam.
The early settlers of these villages migrated from ‘Nadukavery’ in the Mayuram village now called as Mayiladuthurai of Nagapattinam district. The village consist about 200 houses spread over three villages.
